If this is the case for workers in the organized sector, which makes up ten per cent of the workforce, one can only guess at the situation for ninety per cent in the unorganized sector. There are no significant mechanisms in place for the old age security of workers in the unorganized sector. The situation is complicated by the breakdown of joint families, the increase in life expectancy and the increase in the proportion of the elderly in the population.

The total assistance is a monthly pension of Rs. 200 / - for those aged 60 and 79 years and Rs. 500 / - for those above 80 years of age as part of the Central Government's National Social Assistant Program. (It is a different story that about 51 lakh people in Kerala are given a social pension of Rs. 1600 per month). It has recently been made clear in Parliament that it is not possible to raise the long-fixed rates of pensions provided by the Central Government.

This meager pension is given to only 25 per cent of the tens of millions of deserving elderly people. It is clear from what has been said here that India is lagging behind in the global pension rankings. This plight cannot be justified by pointing to the economic condition of the country

Policies that neglect and punish the working and the poor, as well as the misappropriation of capital, are responsible for the increase in famine and the risk of aging. It is widely accepted that government policies make the poor poorer and the rich richer. The Global Inequality Report 2021 underscores this.

According to a report by renowned economists such as Thomas Picatti, India is one of the world's leading countries in terms of wealth and income inequality. Capital and the economy cannot move forward without nurturing a new generation of workers with health, education and skills.

Little do they know that the monopoly capital of India is slaughtering the golden duck. The bankruptcy and impoverishment of the common people, especially the workers, is taking place in such a way that the reproduction of the labor force is impossible.
